A Senior Consultant based out of the Los Angeles office, Andrew brings experience serving self-insured organizations via reserve analyses as well as expertise in data analytics and predictive modeling to Oliver Wyman Actuarial. “Along with the traditional P&C lines, I also have expertise in quantifying insurance risk for esoteric coverages where there is little to no data,” Andrew explains. “I consider myself to be an Actuarial Data Scientist; someone who has a strong insurance background while incorporating data science and predictive analytics concepts in innovative ways.”
I help clients understand the quantification of their P&C insurance risk. Beyond delivering high-quality actuarial work products, my ultimate goal is for my clients to think of me as a trusted advisor.
Having a great appreciation for the real-world applications of his mathematical and statistical coursework in quantifying risk, Andrew dove right into the actuarial profession after graduating college. Prior to joining Oliver Wyman, he served as a Senior Actuarial Analyst for Farmers Insurance Group, where he worked for the Personal Lines Reserving and Catastrophe Modeling teams.
To those interested in entering the field themselves, Andrew recommends mastering compartmentalization. “Balancing demands from the workplace, study schedules for actuarial exams and personal commitments is a big challenge,” he adds. “Technology and the insurance industry, in general, are constantly evolving. Actuaries must keep up with these trends to make sure they don’t fall behind. Our profession requires us to never stop learning.”
As a strong believer in education, he hopes to become a math teacher in his golden years and inspire youth to love learning as much as he does. He is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
