Joe Fowles
Engagement Manager

Joe is a Manager in the Public Sector and Policy Practice, based in our London office. His role is to support governments, regulators, and public bodies across the world in dealing with their toughest challenges, especially those linked to economic development. This includes helping governments to drive a sustainable recovery from the pandemic and beyond, finding the best way to finance and grow innovative companies, and ensuring the financial sector is inclusive for those who have historically been under-represented. Joe also works extensively on combatting financial crime, as well as broader organisational transformation across the public sector in the UK and Europe.

In the past few last years, Joe has supported institutions across the UK, Europe and Americas to develop and implement long-term strategies to addressing burning global issues; among them Brexit, the pandemic, and illicit finance. This included the development of a government’s roadmap for the post-pandemic economic recovery, and coordinating a major organisation’s strategic response to Brexit.

A large part of Joe’s work looks at inclusion and under-representation. He is a co-founder of Men4Change - a network at Oliver Wyman that seeks to actively engage men and other allies in reducing inequities at the firm and in our society – and he also serves on the global committee of Oliver Wyman’s Women’s Network (WOW). He co-authored “Alone together: Entrepreneurship and diversity in the UK”, a report looking into how ethnic and economic backgrounds affect outcomes for entrepreneurs, as well as the UK Venture Capital & Female Founders report on the barriers faced by female founders in accessing Venture Capital.

My work on inclusion and under-representation has highlighted the stark disparities that exist in our society but also the positive change that we have the power to enact.

Joe believes that no matter how monumental the challenges we face might seem, taking action can create substantial and tangible impacts on the careers of individuals and the culture of an organisation. For example, since its launch in 2018, Men4Change has expanded to more than 20 offices worldwide, and has visibly increased the scope of active male allyship at Oliver Wyman.

Real change is possible when we focus on actively sponsoring female colleagues, creating an environment where everyone feels their voice is heard, and using social capital to promote others.

A self-proclaimed gap year veteran and a travel enthusiast, Joe is particularly drawn to Latin America – even despite his questionable salsa skills. When he can’t hop on a plane to a faraway destination, Joe settles for a run along the Regent’s Canal in London or watches a cricket match. He also enjoys triathlons and scuba diving.
